So, first off, take the "ratings" with a grain of salt. I realize this is just a sketch bit, so critique ratings don't quite fit.
But first off, I like the cartoony styles you explore, and I like the idea of fitting him with a particular personality right off the bat. However, you only explore one or two dispositions (happiness, goofiness, seriousness)-- but that's not all there is to the character. If you want a deep, defined personality, you need to draw him from all points of view... more stances, different expressions... that kind of stuff. But I do like how you focused on a few key traits. It's good writing, in my opinion.
I suppose originality would be null when writing a fan-comic, but I felt like you perhaps could've done more with his design; add your own ideas; single him out as part of your comic's universe and as a separate series, kind of like what <img class="avatar" src="a.deviantart.net/avatars/s/e/s…" alt="" title="senji100" /> does. However, this is completely on preference, and you should just do what you think is best as far as Matt's design and possible customization.
Considering the art style, I said before I like your cartoony take on it, though you should keep in mind that the art style should work well and supplement the mood of the comic/what it's about, and not just use whatever art style you want. My only complaint is that, in some stances and with some expressions, Matt looks an awful lot like a girl. Just keep that in mind.
Well, that's about all I have to say. One thing, though, is that it would've been nice to see some more completed/colored drawings. While you are only showing us a brainstorm/sketch collection, if you want in-depth feedback, a better look at what the finished product will look like would be nice.
But still, nice to see your ideas and work so far! Hopefully this critique helps.
